mr easy loo
Absolutely adored it. Like, fully! I would like ot first and foremost salute Aubrey Poo for being so light, so bright and like exciting to watch. Energetic roles are his forte. I actually remember watching him play live at the Marikana play by the other Aubrey; Sekhabi. Also killed that one.
Here I go, Mr Easy Loo is the story of the Soweto businessman Sam Matona who was the first to introduce the mobile toilet business in the hood. So beautifully told, so respectfully told. I think that Mandla N and his team did a great work in setting the time for us but also in the same breath highlighting certain points in his life at which he achieved everything. I would say that I followed the story not even having known that it was a true-life story.
More of our stories need to be shared in this light. Very beautiful storytelling. I think most of my interest and just like respect for the work is because my very own grandmother was an entrepreneur and she did amazing things in the community, for the community and more especially for our family.
I think that when black people do iconic things, it is worth yelling and selling and telling. We were born into a world that told us otherwise. A world where, you know, there's a system in place to kind of keep you oppressed and not free - especially financially in this capitalistic world. In all its sense really. And I wonder if the ultimate freedom is financial freedom then? When one is genuinely, creatively following their intuition and leaning into the scary of it all. You do it. You remember. Then you remind the white people that they are not all that. Lmao Okay.
Mobile toilet business continues to be one of the most convenient services in the world. Specifically for someone who attends live events, parties and festivals. My grandmother also provides mobile toilets to the community as her business. They have become so much better and elevated now. Love it for us!
I usually am a little uncomfortable, like it does not have that same safety as the toilet in your home, right? Because it's outside somewhere. I'm usually just trying to just get it right. Nothing more or less.
Nevertheless, go watch the film with its beautiful comedic brightness. That's it from me. Also the character is so adamant to break into the industry, something even I struggle with. I probably could do a lot more. Be less scared, So yeah.
